LATS XVIII Congress Awards

The awards ceremony was one of the highlights of the XVIII Latin American Thyroid Congress. On the last day, two Senior LATS Awards were presented. It is considered the greatest prize of the Latin American Thyroid Society and it is bestowed to researchers for their scientific contribution to the area.

At the end of that day, results of the works presented on November 19th were disclosed as well – clinical and basic areas’ Young Investigator Awards.

Dr. Ana Luiza Maia, LATS president, and Dr. Fabian Pitoia, LATS elected president, have mediated the awarding.

Senior LATS Awards

Brazilian scientists Dr. Carmen Cabanelas Pazoz de Moura and Dr. Maria Tereza Nunes were awarded the Senior LATS Awards 2021.

Dr. Carmem spoke about her professional trajectory and the honor of being an effective member of LATS since 1987. The specialist also presented the lecture “Contributions to the thyroid field: Regulation of Hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid Axis and Thyroid Hormone Action”, which was introduced by Dr. Tania Ortiga.

Dr. Maria Tereza was very emotional during her presentation. She thanked her peers for the homage, as well as her friends and family for the support. The specialist recounted her experience in thyroidology and presented the lecture “A journey into the basic thyroidology”. Dr. Celia Nogueira did a brief report of the colleague’s history.

Young Investigator Award

Six scientific works of the clinical and basic areas were selected and presented during the Congress.
