Message from the Secretary

Dear LATS colleagues,
Welcome to the March - April 2010 Newsletter.

We are very pleased to give you some interesting information regarding the activity of our Society.

As you already know, the next 14th International Thyroid Congress (14th ITC) will be held on September 11-16, 2010, in Paris, France. We wont to remind you that you can benefit from lower registration fees up to June 30th, 2010. There is also a preferential registration fee for the category of ”Member of sister society” (not in debt). The registration procedure as well as complete details of all aspects of this relevant event can be obtained at the Congress website (http://www.itc2010.com). You can access it through LATS web page (https://www.lats.org).

The 14th ITC is organized with the cooperation of the 4 sister societies: American Thyroid Association (ATA), European Thyroid Association (ETA), Asia-Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA) and LATS. During the last meeting of the International Coordinating Committee (ICC) held in Lisbon, Portugal, on September 6th, 2009, at the time of the 34th ETA Annual Meeting, important arrangements about the Congress were made. In this opportunity Dr. Wilmar Wiersinga, President of the Program Organizing Committee (POC) and Dr. Martin Schlumberger, President of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 14th ITC together with Presidents and Secretaries of the sister Thyroid Societies agreed on the prizes and travel grants to be awarded by each society.

The LATS Prize plenary lecture at the 14th ITC will take place on Tuesday, September 14th, from 8:30 am to 9:20 am. The name of the winner will be announced during the meeting.

The conditions to apply for the LATS YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARDS and TRAVEL GRANTS can be found in the previous LATS Newsletter, January-February 2010, Number Thirty Eight. You can access this Newsletter through LATS web page.

Please take into account that Travel Grants or Young Investigator Prizes as well as preferential discounts on registration fees are available to members in good standing of the Society.

We would like to let you know that Dr. Eduardo K. Tomimori, LATS Treasurer, has informed that the LATS 2009 Balance is available on LATS web page at Members Only section, Financial Info.

We want to remind you that the next XIV LATS Congress will be held in Lima, Peru. The date August 4-7, 2011, has been proposed for the meeting. The Local Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee, coordinated by their chairmen, Eduardo Pretell and Marcos Abalovich, respectively, have begun to work on the congress organization.

We are glad to inform you that Merck Serono, a division of Merck KGaA, will run the Second International Thyroid Awareness Week which will be held from 24th - 30th, May, 2010. The topic selected for this occasion is: Thyroid and Child Development - from Pregnancy to Teenage Age. This activity has been endorsed by LATS. It will be an unbranded campaign where the product names will not be mentioned. In a few days you could access the site of the Thyroid Awareness Week through LATS web site.
