Message from the President
LATS. January-February 2010
Dear LATS colleagues,
We are glad to share some good news with you all.
Firstly we would like to remind you about the 14th International Thyroid Congress (ITC) to be held on September 11-16, 2010, in Paris, France. You can get complete information on scientific activities, social events, prizes and several other important aspects as well as the procedure for registration and instructions for abstract submission at the Congress website (http://www.itc2010.com). You can take advantage of the discounted early bird registration available until June 30th, 2010. The deadline for abstract submission is 30th April. You can easily access the 14th ITC site through LATS webpage (https://www.lats.org).
The International Coordinating Committee (ICC) in its last meeting agreed on several relevant issues related to the 14th ITC. The ICC, constituted by the President and Secretary of the four sister Thyroid Societies, American Thyroid Association (ATA), European Thyroid Association (ETA), Asia-Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA) and LATS, met in Lisbon, Portugal, on September 6th, 2009, at the time of the 34th ETA Annual Meeting. The President of the Program Organizing Committee (POC) and the President of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 14th ITC, Drs. Wilmar Wiersinga and Martin Schlumberger, respectively, were present. The meeting was chaired by the ICC Coordinator, Dr. Hugo Niepomniszcze. The activities of the POC and the LOC of the 14th ITC were informed and up to date. Some of the main points established were:
- the award winners of the four international thyroid sister societies (AOTA,
ATA, ETA and LATS) will give plenary lectures at the 14th ITC. It was decided
not to give in advance the names of the winners.
- The sister societies (AOTA, ATA, ETA, LATS) will award 8 Young Investigator
Awards of 1000 euro each (4 for oral and 4 for poster presentations).
- Each of the four international thyroid sister associations will have some travel
grants available to attend the ITC 2010
- There will be preferential registration fee for the category of ”Member of the
sister societies”. It was agreed that each sister society will send the list of its
respective membership (not in debt), to the LOC.
A last topic treated by the ICC was the up to date of the World Thyroid Federation (WTF) project. Dr. Niepomniszcze presented the final draft of the WTF project after his trip to Washington DC where he discussed the project with the ATA Executive Committee. The corrected version will be the official document of the WTF, to be founded in Paris, during the 14th ITC.
