Dear LATS Member Colleagues,

 

The LATS XII MEETING is getting closer and promises to be a very special Meeting for all LATS members. The Scientific Organizing Committee, under the presidency of Dr. Guillermo Juvenal is closing the last details, which you will receive soon through our e-mail messages. At the moment, you will find the last news of our Meeting in our site www.lats.org just clicking on LATS XII MEETING and in the attachment “LATS.2007.folder”.


LATS Prize


As in our previous Meetings, the LATS Prize will be awarded to a member of the Latin-American Thyroid Society. The nominations for the LATS Prize recipient must be send to the Secretary-Treasurer until November, 13th, 2006 (Monday)
Any member of the Latin-American Thyroid Society who has made outstanding contributions to thyroid research over a considerable period can be nominated. According to the LATS Rules (Sec.28-31, q.v.), candidates for the LATS Prize may be proposed and seconded by any two active members of LATS. The proposal should be sent to the Secretary-Treasurer, and include the candidate's Curriculum Vitae (no more than 10 pages) and a summary (no more than 2 pages) of the candidate's personal contribution to thyroid research in our countries. Remember that the LATS Prize is an once-in-a-lifetime award.


LATS Young Investigator Prize


The best oral presentations (Basic and Clinic) will be awarded with the Merck - LATS Young Investigator Prize (YIP) (2.000,00 USD). Candidates must have less than 40 years, present their paper as first author at the Meeting. The work presented must have been made in full in a country of Latin America. The recipients of the LATS Prize - young investigator - awards will be selected by the Program Organizing Committee or a smaller Awards Committee appointed by the Scientific Committee, and must only receive this prize once in a life time. He or she must be a LATS member with the annual LATS fees regularly paid. LATS will also grant 30 young investigators with the Travel Grant (TG, 300,00 USD each). The conditions to be candidate to the TG are the same as for the YIP.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The dead-line for abstract submission is December, 18th, 2006.


LATS Travel Grants


LATS is offering 30 Travel Grants (TG, 300.00 USD each) for LATS members. The minimal conditions for applying for a travel grant are:
1. to be a member of LATS (not in debt);
2. to be younger than 40 years;
3. to present the work at the XII LATS Meeting, as first author;
4. The work presented must have been done totally in Latin America.

Every TG candidate must look for the LATS booth at the Meeting , and let the following documents with one of secretaries, Celia or Claudia.
1. A xerox of the abstract (oral or poster) as it appears at the XII LATS Meeting Program;
2. An ID copy
3. A statement of the Institution of origin, stating your status (professor, researcher, postgrad/grad student)
LATS has noticed that many colleagues are still in debt with LATS dues, and so cannot use the members privilege (Registration at the XII LATS Meting at lower values than non-LATS members and to be candidate to the LATS YIP or TG . We hope that our LATS colleagues pay their dues as soon as possible.
