Message from the President

Dear LATS Members:

 

Welcome to the LATS September.2006 Newsletter! Hope all of you are well.

 

We have important information to share with you, regarding the coming XII LATS Meeting, which will be held in Santiago do Chile (Sheraton Hotel), from April 27th to 30th. The Scientific Committee, under the leadership of Guillermo Juvenal is finishing the last details of the Scientific Program, which you will receive through regular mail and will find in our site.  As you know, we are going to have 7 Plenary Lectures, 7 Symposia, 3 Meet-the-Professor Sessions, 3 Hot Topic Sessions, 12 Oral presentations (6 Basic and 6 Clinical) and the Poster Session. Two simultaneous Course, one on Thyroid  Molecular Biology and the other one on Thyroid Ultrassonography.To visualize the first folder, click here .

 

The best oral presentations (Basic and Clinic) will be awarded with the Merck - LATS Young Investigator Prize (YIP)  (2.000,00 USD). Candidates must have less than 40 years, present their paper as first author at the Meeting. The work presented must have been made in full in a country of Latin America. The recipients of the LATS Prize - young investigator - awards will be selected by the Program Organizing Committee or a smaller Awards Committee appointed by the POC, and must only receive this prize once in a life time. He or she must be a LATS member with the annual LATS fees regularly paid. LATS will also grant 30 young investigators with the Travel Grant (TG, 300,00 USD each). The conditions to be candidate to the TG are the same as for the YIP.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The dead-line for abstract submission is December, 18th, 2006.

 

As you probably know LATS Society incomes depends of the success of the financial success our Meetings and from the fees of Active and Associate members. Corresponding members are not obligated to contribute. Unfortunately, we have still a great number of Member who did not updated their annual fees and we are asking strongly them to join our efforts in order to strength our Society with their obligation Each member received his “username” and “password” to login to update his “Membership fees” (Front page, left column). If you have any doubts please contact us through our site (www.lats.org) or e-mail (calima@lats.org).

 

The XII Meeting has his own site, http://www.sochem.cl/SLAT/slat.html, which will be linked to our LATS site. There you will find the most important regarding the Meeting. We are in the process of concluding the English and Portuguese version before doing definitively the link, but you can already consult the site, which is in Spanish language.

 

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: There is an important information coming from the ATA Awards Committee. Our member and past President Dr. Geraldo Medeiros-Neto has been indicated to receive the American Thyroid Association´s Sidney H. Ingbar Distinguished Lecturership Award for 2006, which will be presented to him at the 77th Annual Meeting of the A.T.A., that will be held at Phoenix, Arizona, October 11-15, 2006. Dr. Geraldo was invited to deliver a 40-minute lecture at the Annual Meeting. The LATS Society would like to congratulate Dr. Geraldo for receiving the ATA´s most important recognition for outstanding academic achievements by an established investigator who has made major contributions in thyroid research over many years
