On behalf of the Latin American Thyroid Society, we invite you to attend the X LATS Meeting to be held in Carlos Paz City (Portal del Lago Hotel), Province of Cordoba, Argentina, on May 1-4, 2003.
The X LATS Meeting features a wide variety of scientific sessions that address all clinical and basic aspects of thyroid research. The scientific program consists, among other activities, of six plenary lectures. The invited foreign speakers will be: Ana Aranda (Instituto de Investigaciones Biomedicas "Alberto Sols", Madrid, Spain), Roberto Di Lauro (Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Stazione Zoologica A. Dohrn. Napoli, Italia), Daniel Glinoer (Department of Internal Medicine, Thyroid Investigation Clinic, Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire Saint-Pierre, Brussels, Belgium), Annette Grueters (Otto Heubner Centrum fur Kinderheilkunde und Jugendmedizin, Universitätsklinikum Charite, Berlin, Germany), Enio Martino (Dipartimento di Endocrinologia e Metabolismo, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy) y Pierre Roger (Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (IRIBHN), Free University of Brussels, Brussels, Belgium).
Seven Symposium, four Meet the Professor Sessions and four Special Topics Sessions will also be held as well as oral and poster presentations.
Two Satellite Meetings on Thyroid Surgery and Iodine Deficiency are also programed for April 30.
Besides the scientific activities, an attractive social program is being organized for the attendants and their companions.
Carlos Paz is a beautiful city with a magnificent autumn climate and spectacular landscapes.
The Latin American Thyroid Society will be delighted to have you with us in Carlos Paz and looks forward for stimulating and rewarding five days.

Abstracts Presentations:
The papers must not have been published or presented in International Endocrine or Thyroid meetings and must describe original research. In order to present the communication one of the authors must be inscribed.
Abstracts must follow the following structure:
Title: bold letters
Authors: surname followed by initial names (ex.: Perez J.J.)
Institution
City
Country
Text: 1) Objectives 2) Methodology 3) Results 4) Conclusions (tables or figures can be included)
No abstracts stating "results will be discussed" will be accepted as well as unique cases reports, except those that according to the Scientific Committee are justified by their originality.
The abstract should be written within a box of 17 cm wide and 12 cm height in Arial 10 simple line spacing. Spanish, Portuguese or English are accepted.
The abstracts accepted will be presented as posters, with the exception of 12, which will be selected as eligible for the Merck Prize for Young Researchers (six basic and six clinics).

Merck Prize for Young Researchers
Researchers less than 40 years old by 4th May 2003 are eligible to the Merck prize for Young Investigators. There are two prizes, one for the best work in clinical field and the other for the best work in basic area. Accompanying the abstract a paper of three pages must be sent.
Six papers will be selected from the clinic field and six for the basic area. These will be presented in oral sessions.
The prize is U$ 2000 for each area.
